HOUSTON — The Texans are taking on the Chicago Bears in Week 2 of the NFL season and the game will be played in primetime with C.J. Stroud sharing the national stage with No. 1 pick Caleb Williams.
The Texans announced Friday that they planned to have the NRG Stadium roof open for the game, which is set to kick off at 7:20 p.m.
Houston opened the season with a 29-27 road win over the Colts while the Bears held strong at home and beat the Tennessee Titans 24-17.
The Texans last played a home game with the roof open at NRG Stadium in 2021 -- a loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
NRG Stadium was the first NFL stadium to have a retractable roof.
When Hurricane Beryl blew through Houston, it caused damage to the roof of the Texans' home and the home of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
Two panels on the stadium took the brunt of Beryl. A couple of weeks ago, NRG Park said -- weather permitting -- one of those panels would be repaired before the home opener against the Bears. They said the other panel should be fully repaired before the Texans host the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, Sept. 29 at noon.
NRG Stadium has already hosted some events with the damaged roof. The Texans took on both the Rams and the Giants in the preseason and there was also a Zach Bryan concert in July.
