We now have a timeline of when the NRG Stadium roof is expected to be repaired

Panels of the retractable roof were ripped off by Hurricane Beryl in July, leaving people inside the normally closed NRG Stadium exposed to the elements.

HOUSTON — Hurricane Beryl damaged part of NRG Stadium’s retractable roof when it moved through in July and on Thursday, we got a timeline of when it’s expected to be repaired.

Two panels on the stadium took the brunt of Beryl. Weather permitting, NRG Park said one of those panels will be repaired before the Texans' home opener against the Chicago Bears. That game is Sunday, Sept. 15 at 7:20 p.m.

The other panel should be fully repaired -- again, weather permitting -- before the Texans host the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, Sept. 29 at noon.

Until the roof is fully repaired, fans who head out to NRG Stadium should keep a close eye on the forecast and dress appropriately. Until it's repaired, part of the game will still kind of be outdoors.

Here's what the NRG Stadium roof looked like after Beryl pushed through.

NRG Stadium has already hosted some events with the damaged roof. The Texans took on both the Rams and the Giants in the preseason under the damaged roof. There was also the Zach Bryan concert in July.
