MISSOURI CITY, Texas — Frustration is boiling over for folks across the Houston area who are dealing with major mail delays.
Since KHOU 11 News started reporting on the United States Postal Service issues last month, we've gotten thousands of emails and messages about people having problems getting their packages.
Many of the messages are from people who have been waiting to get their medication -- whether it be for their kids, their loved ones or themselves.
A lot of packages are getting held up at a USPS facility in Missouri City.
Erin Wendel said her mother has been without her meds for a week -- the longest stretch she's gone without them.
"This is a service that we depend on as citizens," Wendel said.
She's one of thousands of people waiting on packages from USPS facilities across the Houston area.
Wendel's mom was visiting from out of state for the holidays.
"Unfortunately, while she was here, she had an exacerbation of some of her health problems which put her in the hospital," Wendel said.
Needing more medicine, a family member shipped her entire supply from home.
"They got stuck at the post office in Missouri City and they've been there for a little over a week now," Wendel said.
Since then, they've tried everything.
"She's really frustrated, too, because she's put a number of hours into trying to find solutions and we've just been unsuccessful with all of them," Wendel said.
She's not eligible for a refill on her 10 different medications for two or three more weeks.
"These meds are very important. She has a pretty extensive cardiac history. So she's got some heart medications that are very important that she takes. She also has some other muscular problems," Wendel said.
Wendel's worried something will happen to her mother that medicine can't help.
"She can have worsening of her diseases and then not recover from that," Wendel said.
The shipping facility where the package sits is just a few miles from her, but she still can't get any answers.
"We're kind of at the mercy of the post office at this point," she said.
Wendel said her mother is staying with her brother and they're taking turns caring for her.
