HOUSTON — Since we told Congressman Al Green about the mail delay issues at a USPS processing center in Houston, he and his office have been working to try and get answers.
"We get calls almost every day about this," he explained.
For weeks, Green said he's demanded transparency from the postal service. In a previous statement, USPS has said the "temporary disruptions" in Houston stem from a "network modernization plan" and they're working to get packages processed as quickly as possible.
On Friday, we asked Green if he thought response was enough.
"I'm not satisfied with their response because when I met with them, I explained to them that I expected them to come before the public," he replied.
The congressman exclusively told KHOU 11 that he's received a report on Houston's mail system from the USPS Office of Inspector General.
"I can tell you, it's not the entirety of Houston," Green said. "It is a report that deals with some facilities in Houston."
Green believes the issue starts in Washington.
"I think this is not something that the workers have created, but there is something in management that is afoul," he said. "Something in management has to be corrected."
For now, the congressman said he still wants to take a tour of the processing facility in his district. He explained he's also working with other lawmakers, like Rep. Sylvia Garcia and Rep. Michael McCaul, to see just how far the problem goes.
"And if it is pervasive, meaning that this is something occurring in other states, I will let the public know," Green said.
The congressman said he's planning a news conference next week where he'll share details from the inspector general report and more information on his efforts to help people who have delayed packages.
