'Gremlins' in his elbow could have Alex Bregman switching positions

Bregman said there's nothing structurally wrong with his arm, but blames it on "gremlins" in there.

Houston Astros' Alex Bregman celebrates after hitting a walk-off home run against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Saturday, July 27, in Houston.

HOUSTON — The Astros’ Alex Bregman is dealing with an issue with his throwing arm, and it may lead to a switch on the diamond for team’s slugging third-baseman.

Last week, Bregman said he slept on his arm wrong and missed the Astros’ series against the White Sox.

He returned to the lineup against Boston as a designated hitter and before Thursday’s game in Baltimore, Bregman was seen getting some reps at first base.

Could he be moving switching positions?  The Astros need his bat in the lineup for the home stretch of the season, but those throws from the hot corner – third base – could be an issue for now with his arm as it is.

On Wednesday, he explained what’s happening, saying there’s nothing structurally wrong. He’s just taking it day by day.

"There's swelling," Bregman said. "There's nothing structurally wrong with the UCL, but some little gremlins in there causing some swelling that's just going to have to try and mitigate through the rest of the year."

Bregman was on a tear before the arm issue he’s dealing with. For the season, he’s batting .261 with 20 home runs and 60 RBIs. He was recently named co-AL Player of the Week along with teammate Yordan Alvarez.

As for the Astros, they topped Baltimore 6-0 Thursday and the team is now 5.5 games up on the Seattle Mariners, who have been in a tailspin as of late. On Thursday, Seattle fired their manager, former Astros player Scott Servais.
