'There's no more momma' | Family wants justice after man accused of leading police on chase crashed into woman's car, killing her

Esoterica Spivey leaves behind two daughters along with her mother and sister. They're now hanging onto their faith as they navigate the fallout of the tragedy.

HOUSTON — "I had to go home and tell her children there's no more momma. It was very painful."

Those were the words of Deborah Davenport talking about the agony she felt telling her grandchildren the life-altering news.

Davenport's daughter, Esoterica Spivey, was killed in a crash with a wrong-way driver earlier this week.

On Wednesday, Spivey, 40, was taking someone home that night and driving along the Eastex Freeway feeder road near Greens Road when her vehicle was struck by a car that was going the wrong way. She was taken to an area hospital but later died.

Houston police said the Humble Police Department called for help chasing the driver of a stolen vehicle. At one point during the chase, a woman got out of the stolen car. She was taken into custody.

The driver of the stolen car, later identified as Sebastian Sanchez, kept driving and turned into oncoming traffic on the northbound Eastex Freeway feeder road by Greens Road. That's when authorities said Sanchez crashed into Spivey's car.

Now, her family wants justice as they grapple with their new reality.

"It was something I never could imagine -- to think my child would leave here like that," Davenport said.

Spivey leaves behind two daughters along with her mother, sister and her fiancé. They're now hanging onto their faith as they navigate the fallout of the tragedy.

"Mr. Sanchez has to be held accountable for his decisions that he made and why he didn't want to stop," Cory Spivey said.

Authorities said Sanchez is accused of being caught driving stolen vehicles at least twice. Earlier this year, he allegedly ran multiple red lights and crashed into another vehicle while evading police.

Davenport said the family will take care of her daughter's girls as her own.

"We will always keep her in our spirit and we will raise those girls just like I did them (her daughters)," Davenport said.

Sanchez was supposed to make an appearance in court on Friday, but he wasn't there. Court officials said he was combative and was withheld from his appearance for safety purposes. He's facing several charges, including murder.
