Driver rescued by Houston firefighters after flipping into ditch

The photos of the upside-down car in the water are dramatic, but the person inside somehow survived.

HOUSTON — By looking at the photo, it’s hard to believe someone survived the accident. But Houston firefighters say the driver of this car did.

According to HFD, the vehicle flipped upside down in a flooded ditch along Almeda and MLK at around 11:50 p.m., where it was submerged for a period of time.  Firefighters responded and found the driver still alive. Crews pulled that driver out to safety.

Firefighters were responding to several calls for help Thursday night, including dozens of high-water rescues across the Houston area when drivers got stuck in high water.
