Pasadena officer recovering in the hospital after hit by another officer

PASADENA, Texas — A Pasadena police officer is recovering in the hospital after he was accidentally struck by another officer in the parking lot of a fire station Saturday.

The injured officer, identified as Joel Mohr, is a year and a half veteran with the Pasadena Police Department.

The officers were rushing to help a La Porte police officer who got into an altercation with a man in the 6500 block of Spencer Highway when the accident happened.

The La Porte officer was told a suspicious man carrying a backpack was looking into cars in the parking lot. The officer, who was not in uniform, went to confront the man and see what was going on.

The officer identified himself as police both verbally and by displaying his badge, according to the Pasadena Police Department. After a brief verbal exchange, the suspicious man attacked the officer.

A witness called 911 and additional police officers arrived on scene to help detain the man. The suspect was taken to the hospital for minor injuries he got during the fight.

He is being charged with assault on a police officer.
