Do you smell gasoline after barge collision in Houston Ship Channel? Here's where you can report it

A claims hotline has also been set up.

LA PORTE, Texas — A 24/7 air monitoring hotline has been set up for the public to report strong gasoline odors after a barge collision in the Houston Ship Channel Friday afternoon.

Two barges collided with a tanker south of Morgan’s Point in La Porte. The barges were loaded with gasoline blend stock Reformate, which is leaking into the ship channel.

The Center for Toxicology and Environmental Health has conducted real-time air monitoring in Seabrook, La Porte, El Lago, Pasadena, Clear Lake Shores, League City, Texas City and Bacliff. Personnel said they observed no detectable concentration of benzene, %LEL, toluene or Xylene in the communities.

You can report odors at 281-757-3017. If you feel as if you need medical attention, you should still call 911.

A claims hotline is available at 800-241-9010.

The Preliminary Air Monitoring Report can be found here.
