HOUSTON — It's the summer travel season and a lot of people will be heading to their favorite lake to chill out.

There are plenty of waterfront options in Texas but only two Lone Star State lakes landed on the list of top 30 most picturesque in North America: Lake Travis at No. 12 and Lake Conroe at No. 27.

The rankings by vacation rental platform Lake.com are based on the number of Instagram posts with hashtags.

Lake Michigan, which is spread across Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and Michigan, finished second followed by Lake Superior on the US-Canada border.

“The data reveal some fascinating insights into the continent's natural beauty," Lake.com CEO David Ciccarelli said. "It's remarkable to see how social media platforms like Instagram can showcase the captivating allure of these lakes, drawing attention from people far and wide.”

Two other Texas spots, Lake Texoma and Lake Lewisville, were named among the top 50 most Instagrammable

“These findings underscore the profound impact of these scenic spots, not only on local communities but also on a global scale, as they inspire countless individuals to explore and appreciate the wonders of nature," Ciccarelli said.

Lake Fork, east of Dallas, was the lowest-ranking U.S. lake with only 105 Instagram hashtags.
