WEBSTER, Texas — The Great Wolf Lodge water park in Webster will be ready to make a splash nearly two months earlier than expected.
Officials announced Tuesday that the resort south of Houston will open on Thursday, August 29, just in time for Labor Day weekend.
“We can see the opening just around the corner," CEO John Murphy said. "The building has turned out beautifully and we’re just excited."
We also got a sneak peek of the 92,000-square-foot indoor water park, 61,000-square-foot adventure park and hotel under construction.
Workers were busy building the rides for the 22nd Great Wolf Lodge and the second in Texas.
The water park’s centerpiece attraction is Otter Cave Waterworks, a multi-level, interactive water play structure with intertwined “leaking” water pipes, spray jets, four twisting body slides and Great Wolf Lodge’s signature, 1,000-gallon tipping bucket.
Along with the usual attractions, the Webster location will include a first-of-its-kind Texas Twirler slide, a raft adventure that can accommodate up to five riders. A new Howlers Ropes Course that includes two zip lines is another new feature.
Additional highlights include the High Paw Holler slide, Alberta Falls tube ride, Forest Flume slide, Rapid Racer tube ride, River Canyon Run raft ride, Slap Tail Pond wave pool, Crooked Creek lazy river and Otter Springs play pool.
The adventure park includes Northern Lights Arcade, Ten Paw Alley for bowling and the Howl In One Miniature Golf Course.
It's all designed with families who want to play and stay in mind.
"You book one room, you have everything under one roof and I think families really enjoy that," Murphy said.
If you book before May 5 with code LABORDAYOPEN, you can get a 30% discount off standard rates.
Great Wolf Lodge is located on a 27-acre site on Great Wolf Way just east of the Gulf Freeway.
