First week of Rodeo attendance down compared to 2023 but big crowds expected for upcoming concerts

RodeoHouston got off to a slow start but last weekend's shows did well. Big crowds are expected this week for sellout shows, including Jelly Roll and Lainey Wilson.

HOUSTON — Mother Nature smiled on the first week of the 2024 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo without the usual mix of hot, cold and stormy days.

Even so, crowds overall have been below the 2023 attendance.

"We are a little under where we were last year. We're actually ahead of where we were in 2022," HLSR President and CEO Chris Boleman said. "And then actually if you add the attendance from the barbecue, we're pretty much the same as we were this time last year."

There were some bright spots in the first weekend with 50 Cent and Ivan Cornejo selling out. Hardy also drew a lot of people.

Total attendance is expected to pick up in this second week with sellout shows, including Jelly Roll tonight and Lainey Wilson on Saturday. Sunday's Go Tejano Day with Los Tigres del Norte is also sold out except for standing room only.

In the final week, Bun B, the Jonas Brothers and Nickelback are among the hot sellers with only SRO tickets available. Plus it's spring break, which typically attracts a lot of visitors.

We checked with the folks at HLSR and they said there are still face-value seats available in the lower level and $25 upper-level seats for these shows.
