Houston forecast: Rain chances ramp up this week

Some areas could receive 4-6" of rain through the work week.

As of Sunday morning, isolated showers and storms are offshore over the Gulf. AS we progress through the day, expect showers and storms to move inland over Houston. Afternoon high temperatures will reach 90 degrees with winds out of the south at 8-10 mph.

This week, The KHOU 11 Weather Team has issued Weather Impact Alert Days for Monday through Thursday as the wet weather pattern will ramp up causing ponding on roadways and rises in creeks, streams and bayous.

The stalled frontal boundary combined with an upper-level low building across the south-central U.S. increased rain and storm chances across the Greater Houston area.

Forecast rain total accumulations from Monday through Wednesday of next week could exceed 4" to 6" in some spots. With grounds already saturated, it could lead to flooding concerns.

Rain Potential This Week

Temperatures will drop below normal into the upper 80s and low 90s through the next several days, thanks to the added rain chances and clouds. Looking ahead, the temperature should stay at or just below normal through the end of July.

Finally, in the tropics, conditions have turned quiet with no storm development expected over the next week. In fact, long-range models keep the tropics quiet through the end of the month thanks to a large concentration of Saharan Dust over the Atlantic.

Tropics Update

Expect rain chances each day for the next seven days. Rain chances will become more widespread next week with numerous showers and storms across southeast Texas. Due to overcast skies and rain, temperatures will be below average reaching the upper 80s and low 90s.
