Your photos and videos: Severe thunderstorms produce hail, blinding rain across Houston area

The widespread storms lasted about three hours.

HOUSTON — Severe thunderstorms swept through the Houston area Friday and into Saturday morning packing a bit of a punch.

The storms were accompanied by hail -- some as large as golf balls -- and blinding rain that impacted evening traffic. The wind got so bad that at one point it knocked out power to more than 27,000 CenterPoint residents.

The storms came in from the west, first hitting the Katy, Missouri City and Sugar Land areas. KHOU 11 received reports of those areas getting to pea-to-marble-sized hail and several inches of rain.

The rain quickly made its way east, surprising RodeoHouston attendees who had to make a run for cover. The weather got so bad that RodeoHouston shut down the carnival for more than an hour.

The storms then became more widespread, hitting areas like West University, River Oaks, Hobby Airport and downtown Houston. Lamar and Fannin, an intersection prone to flooding, experienced high water.

Over in Needville, the winds were so strong and the rain was so heavy that Kamron Hamrick took a video of a trampoline floating down a ditch.

Early Saturday morning, one viewer took video of hail pounding their yard.

We saw the most damage from the storms in Angleton, which is in Brazoria County. Photos sent to our newsroom showed winds were strong enough to blow a fence to a roof and destroy a backyard playset.
