'Devastating tornado' destroys 10K square-foot building at sheriff's office in Florida

Sheriff Keith Pearson said the tornado took out a red iron building that housed the sheriff's office's patrol cars.

FORT PIERCE, Fla. — A tornado that tore through the Fort Pierce area on Wednesday afternoon destroyed part of the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office, according to Sheriff Keith Pearson.

It happened at the facility located on West Midway Road near the toll road.

In a Facebook Reel, Sheriff Pearson said the "devastating tornado" took out a 10,000-square-foot red iron building that housed the sheriff's office's patrol cars.

No one was in the building at the time it collapsed and no injuries were reported, according to Pearson.

Pearson ended the video with an urgent message to residents, saying in part, "If you're seeing this video and you're getting these warnings, take shelter. This is a real storm. This is a dangerous storm."
