Houston communities band together to feed those still dealing with power outages

Rian Geller found a way to give back to those who are still recovering from the hurricane.

LA PORTE, Texas — In La Porte and Pasadena, neighbors are coming together to help those still dealing with power outages from Beryl.

They're offering free food and snacks -- anything they can do for their neighbors in need.

Rian Geller, from La Porte, decided to lend a helping hand to others through food.

"I can cook food and help someone in a hot house," she said.

She posted on social media and donations started pouring in. She said it's a way she can give back to those who are still recovering from the hurricane. She said she feels blessed that her house wasn't damaged in the storm.

"I believe He answered my prayers," she said.

Those looking for a meal showed up at her house.

"I still don't have power," one woman said as she picked up some food.

A family of four showed up and said they just got power and water back at their home on Friday. They're hoping to get on their feet soon because the head of the household hasn't been working this week. They were grateful to get a meal for Friday night.

Geller wasn't the only one helping others. In Pasadena, Elizabeth Jimenez was offering up free snow cones and popcorn.

"We are all in the same situation," Jimenez said.

Everyone is doing what they can to help their neighbors in need when they need it most.
