List: Closures and cancellations after Beryl impacts the Houston area

HOUSTON — After Hurricane Beryl brought heavy rain and winds to the Houston area, several governmental entities as well as private organizations announced closures and cancellations.

City and county closures

Harris County

All cases set for Tuesday will be rescheduled. This includes:

  • Criminal misdemeanor cases set on the dockets for each of the 16 Harris County Criminal Courts at Law, as well as the docket run by Harris County Criminal Courts at Law Associate Judge David Singer.
  • Civil cases set on dockets for each of the four Harris County Civil Courts at Law, as well as the docket run by Harris County Civil Courts at Law Associate Judge Jermaine Thomas.

The courts expect to resume normal operations on Wednesday, July 10. Should that change, updates will be posted on social media and their website.

  • Harris County Jury Service is canceled on Tuesday, July 9.  Those summoned to appear on Tuesday, July 9 do not need to appear or reschedule. 
  • If you are an empaneled juror for a specific court, please contact your court directly for questions or concerns.
  • The Precinct 4 Constable’s Offices at Cypresswood, Meadowfern and Humble will be closed Monday, July 8. Constable deputies and the dispatch center will be working throughout the storm.
  • Harris County Appraisal District will be closed Monday, July 8. Appraiser meetings and ARB hearings will be automatically rescheduled to July 29.
  • Harris County Toll Road Authority customer service call center, administrative offices, and EZ TAG Stores will be closed Tuesday, July 9. The Lynchburg Ferry is also closed. For the latest information on its operational status, click here.
  • The Harris County Department of Education facilities will be closed on Tuesday, July 9. 

Fort Bend County

  • Fort Bend County offices and facilities will be closed on Monday, July 8. Fort Bend County offices and facilities are expected to return to normal operations on Tuesday, July 9. Officials will monitor the weather to see if any changes should be made on reopening.

Houston

METRO services are suspended.

Tuesday, July 9

  • Park & Ride: All service will remain suspended.
  • Local Bus: To allow for extra time to assess road conditions, partial service will not begin until 8 a.m. Routes scheduled to begin at this time include: 02, 08, 20, 26, 28, 38, 39, 40, 44, 50, 52, 54, 56, 63, 65, 73, 80, 82, 85 and 89. Delays and detours are possible, and some routes will not operate until later in the day. Allow for extra time and view the latest route-specific service info here.
  • METRORail: Service on all three lines will remain suspended due to power and signal outages. As resources become available, we'll provide bus shuttles and resume rail operations. View the latest service info here.
  • HOV/HOT Lanes: All METRO-operated express lanes will remain closed.
  • METROLift and curb2curb: Will resume service at 8 a.m. Earlier trips will be rebooked, when possible.
  • Customer Service and RideStores: Will operate during their normal hours.

Fulshear

  • Fulshear city facilities will have a delayed opening on Monday, July 8. Depending on the weather, plans are to open at 10 a.m.
  • Utility issues or downed trees can be reported to 281-346-1796. For emergencies, please call 9-1-1.

Galveston

Most public-facing city services will resume on Tuesday, July 9. 

  • City Hall and the public works building will resume normal operations Tuesday. 
  • The Wright Cuney Recreation Center and McGuire Dent Recreation Center, as well as the Lasker Park pool, will be closed on Tuesday. This means the summer youth program will not be open. 
  • The City of Galveston’s Office of Emergency Management will remain open through the night until Tuesday, July 9 at 5 p.m. Residents may call and ask questions by contacting 409-797-3710.
  • Bolivar Peninsula Chamber of Commerce will be closed on Monday, July 8.

Rosenburg

  • Offices for the city of Rosenburg will be closed on Monday, July 8. Officials said around 3 p.m. Monday, city staff will be available to answer phones and assist residents with any inquiries or concerns. If you need assistance, you are asked to call 832-595-3301 or 832-595-3400. 

Surfside Beach

  • City officials said if residents need Surfside Beach Police Department, to call 911 for emergencies.  For non-emergencies please call Brazoria County Sheriff's Office at 979-864-2392. All calls need to be dispatched and recorded.

Texas City

  • The city of Texas City announced that the floodgate has been closed and the dike is closed, too. All city facilities, offices, and services are closed Monday, July 8. All camp and recreational activities are canceled.

Service operations

Galveston

  • Sanitation will collect Monday’s trash route on Tuesday, July 9. For now, sanitation will collect regular trash in carts. There will be future debris collection.
  • Island Transit rail service will resume normal operation Tuesday, July 9.

Rosenburg

  • Rosenburg officials said GFL will not servicing residents on Monday, July 8. Residents are being asked to refrain from placing trash bins and bags at the curbside. Trash bins need to be secured.

Beach closures

  • Bryan Beach will be closed until further notice, according to the Freeport Police Department.
  • Brazoria County beach entrances along Follett’s Island are closed to vehicular traffic, according to county officials.

Cancellations and closures

Houston Zoo closure

  • The Houston Zoo will remain closed through Tuesday, July 9 as they continue to clean up storm debris. The zoo said animals were kept safe during the storm and All ticket holders may reschedule their Zoo visit by emailing group.reservations@houstonzoo.org.

Space Center Houston closure

  • Space Center Houston will be closed on Monday, July 8. All tours, experiences, camps, and events are canceled.
