HOUSTON — Have you noticed hazy skies around the Houston area? What you’re seeing isn’t smog or fog. It’s actually smoke being pushed into the Houston area all the way from Mexico.
According to Meteorologist Pat Cavlin, that haze will be with us for much of the week.
It’s coming from agricultural burns in Mexico and it’s all moving north on winds that are about a mile above the surface. In fact, those winds are taking the smoke all the way into the upper Great Plains.
Those hazy skies will last at least until Thursday as long as long as the wind stays in place.
Haze like this from fires burning in Mexico is typical for this time of year. The current air quality index in Houston is 'unhealthy for sensitive groups.'
