HOUSTON — It's been cold all week, and now it's getting even colder, freezing cold in some spots.
Overnight tonight temperatures will drop into the 30s areawide, with the spots highlighted dropping to the 32 degree freezing mark or slightly below.
Once the sun goes down, the sharp temperature drop kicks in. We're in the mid 50s by 9 p.m., then the mid 40s already by 2 a.m. Why is that? Winds are finally relaxed and that means the cold air pools at the surface calmly without winds stirring it up with warmer, radiated air above it.

The coldest point will be Thursday morning between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. The coldest spots will be the areas farther away from the coast (that's because water helps keep things more temperate).
From the city center down to the coast, it'll still be very chilly with the coldest temps so far this season--but above Freeze Warning criteria.
That means tonight, especially if you live in our northern cities and counties, it's time to keep the P's in mind.
P--people: bundle up!
P--plants: if they're potted, bring them inside.
P--pets: let the dogs sleep inside with you.
Something else to keep in mind, don't place anything close to your heaters to prevent any fire dangers.
