List: Houston-area school closings on Wednesday, June 19

With the threat of flooding from a tropical system in the Gulf of Mexico, there are some cancellations to report.

HOUSTON — As the tropical system in the Gulf gains strength and moves toward Mexico, it's expected to cause coastal flooding in Southeast Texas.

  • A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued from San Luis Pass southward to the Rio Grande, the National Weather Service said.
  • National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Warning for coastal Harris, Bolivar Peninsula, coastal Brazoria, and Galveston Island until 1 a.m. Thursday.
  • There's a Flood Watch for Harris, Fort Bend, Galveston, Brazoria, Washington, Colorado, Austin, Waller, Wharton, Jackson, Matagorda and Liberty counties from 7 p.m. Tuesday to late Wednesday.
  • A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for the coastal waters from Bolivar Peninsula to Matagorda Bay until Thursday morning. Very strong winds will cause hazardous seas which could capsize or damage vessels and reduce visibility.

With the threat of flooding, some school districts are expected to cancel classes on Wednesday. We'll update this list as necessary.
