HOUSTON — With heavy rain in the forecast, Lake Houston will be lowered by twelve inches, starting early Saturday morning.
The rain is expected to begin on Saturday afternoon lasting into the overnight. To get ready, Houston Public Works will start lowering the lake's water level at 4 a.m. Saturday. Weather permitting, the lake will be taken down to an elevation of 41.4. feet
The city is asking people who live along the lake to tie down their property.
Below is a timeline of the heavy rain from the KHOU 11 weather team, as of Friday afternoon.
8 A.M. to 2 P.M.: Expect to see spotty showers to start the day on Saturday.
2 PM TO 6 PM: Around this time, storms are expected to begin with the chance of rain at 50%.
6 P.M. to 11 P.M.: By the evening, expect to see areawide rain with some spots seeing heavy rainfall. Rainfall amounts range between a tenth and a quarter of an inch.
A few inches of accumulation is possible north of Houston and there's where we have a potential to see high water spots and isolated street flooding in poor drainage areas.
The rain looks to clear by noon Sunday but skies remain cloudy through much of the afternoon with the high maxing out in the low 70s. Monday is the picture-perfect day with the 70s still around and full sunshine back in Houston. Enjoy it as we return to warmth and rain chances after that.
