Residents keep a close eye on areas along Galveston Bay ahead of heavy rain

About ten miles from Clear Lake Park in Dickinson, the mayor is keeping a close eye on Dickinson Bayou.

DICKINSON, Texas — Tuesday was like any other day at Clear Lake Park. People were fishing and others took their boat out on the water.

“Coming out here to run a boat and see what it’s all about. I think we’re going to make a deal,” said Jason Bounds.

Jason Bound lives on the island of Jamaica Beach. He said he’s not too worried about the rain on the way.

“Every year there’s a potential so can’t get worried about it if you live on the coast,” said Bounds.

Others spent part of the day watching the water and waiting.

“Yesterday was lower. Today’s high. It went like three feet higher that it normally is,” Edgar Aurizar said.

Edgar is ready to help pull out anyone who gets stuck as the tide comes in.

“That’s why I lifted the truck a little bit more, so I’ll be able to go through the water,” said Aurizar.

About ten miles from Clear Lake Park in Dickinson, the mayor is keeping a close eye on Dickinson Bayou.

“You can see it’s up here on the grass pretty much at this point,” said Mayor Sean Skipworth. “It’ll be higher tomorrow more than likely from what we’re seeing.”

Although the levels aren’t concerning now, Mayor Skipworth said they do expect to have some flooding.

“We’ve done a good job of identifying where the problem areas are likely to be so we can keep an eye on those and do what we can and get people to do what they need to do if things get worse for them,” said Skipworth.
