Watch the roads | MLK Day parade routes in Houston

Two parades will take over Downtown and Midtown until Monday afternoon.

HOUSTON — As Houston prepares to celebrate Martin Luther, Jr. Day Monday, police want everyone to be aware of the traffic to come from the parades.

There are two parades to be aware of: the MLK Original Parade Downtown and the MLK Grande Parade in Midtown.

According to Houston police, the Original Parade will start with a ceremony at 9:30 a.m. from City Hall. 

The actual parade will start at 10 a.m. at the intersection of Smith and Lamar Streets. Floats and performers will travel from there to Walker Street, Milam Street and Louisiana Street. It'll end at the intersection of Bagby and Dallas Streets.

The Original Parade is expected to wrap up at around 12:30 p.m.

The MLK Grande Parade will be held close by at 10 a.m.

Staging for that event will start at Alabama and San Jacinto Streets. The parade will then travel up San Jacinto, make a left on Webster Street and end on Fannin and Tuam Streets.

That parade should end at around 12 p.m.
