Truck crashes into sign along Southwest Freeway scattering watermelons across the roadway

The Fort Bend Fire Marshal’s Office said a hazmat crew was on the scene to clear an oil spill.

SUGAR LAND, Texas — A lost load of watermelons and a hazmat spill have been cleared after causing a traffic headache on the Southwest Freeway Tuesday morning, according to the Sugar Land Police Department.

The scene lasted through the morning rush hour. According to Houston Transtar, the crash happened just before 4 a.m. near University Boulevard and was affecting some of the main lanes and frontage road.

The Fort Bend Fire Marshal’s Office said a hazmat crew responded to the scene to clear an oil spill. 

Major Accident: 18100 block of US 59 Northbound across from U of H. 18 wheeler turned over and lost load. 3 NB lanes are blocked. This could take up to 3 hours to clear. Please avoid the area if possible.
