What was the strange sound on the Boeing capsule in space? NASA said they've figured it out

According to NASA, it was feedback and posed no danger.

HOUSTON — A mystery coming from the Starliner capsule in space has been solved.

A few days ago, NASA astronaut Butch Wilmore radioed Mission Control in Houston to report a strange sound coming from the Boeing capsule.

You can hear the sound in the video window above.

On Monday, NASA addressed it, saying the pulsing sound had stopped. They also said the feedback was from an audio configuration between the space station and the Starliner capsule.

"The space station audio system is complex, allowing multiple spacecraft and modules to be interconnected, and it is common to experience noise and feedback," NASA said in a social media post. "The crew is asked to contact mission control when they hear sounds originating in the comm system. The speaker feedback Wilmore reported has no technical impact to the crew, Starliner, or station operations, including Starliner’s uncrewed undocking from the station no earlier than Friday, Sept. 6."

NASA says Starliner will still undock from the International Space Station as early as Friday to begin its return to Earth, but the Starliner crew will have to wait until February to catch a ride home with the SpaceX Dragon capsule.
