You could score J.J. Watt’s old home in Pearland if you have a half-million dollars handy.
The Texans’ star defensive end just listed his house in Pearland, and it’s already causing a buzz. The word “modest” has been used to describe this four-bed, four-bathroom house (for an NFL star, that is).
As Watt and the Texans beat up on the Bears Sunday, the player’s Pearland home was drawing attention, too.
“J.J. pretty much kept to himself,” said neighbor Joel Baulch.
Baulch’s a big fan of the defensive end and former neighbor.
“It’s really true about his work ethic. You’d see him gone around 5:30 in the morning, and he wouldn’t come back until late at night,” Baulch said.
He saw the weekend buzz about Watt’s home hitting the market months after he says the player himself moved out.
“For a neighborhood perspective, we’re hoping things quiet down just a little bit,” Baulch said.
According to HAR.com, the Shadow Creek Ranch home is listed at $465,000. It features four bedrooms, four bathrooms and a backyard pool.
The listing has more than two dozen photos of the bachelor pad.
Among the improvements neighbors say Watt made is a pergola on the back patio.
Realtor John Williams isn’t the listing agent, but he says rules are in place to weed out “looky loos” from legitimate buyers.
“Making sure they have a buyer’s agreement, that the person qualifies for a mortgage or has sufficient funds to buy it,” Williams said.
And that’s just to see the house on the inside.
Williams says the fact that Watt owns this home will likely spark interest but not a spike in price.
“The value is the value no matter who lives in the house. The bank determines that when they lend you money on it,” Williams said.
Baulch just hopes the new buyer is another win for the neighborhood.
“Just a nice, quiet neighbor would be wonderful. I think that’s what we’re all wishing for, yes,” Baulch said.
KHOU 11 News tried to get in touch with the actual listing agent Monday, with no luck.
Watt has yet to put a sign in the yard, which realtors say isn’t uncommon in a discreet sale.
