HOUSTON — The Houston Texans are preparing for Sunday’s noon showdown against the Cleveland Browns in case starter C.J. Stroud isn’t able to go. That's according to the NFL Network.
Stroud remains in the concussion protocol more than a week after suffering the injury in Houston’s loss to the New York Jets.
Houston added former Jets’ QB Tim Boyle for depth behind Case Keenum and Davis Mills if Stroud is out Sunday against Cleveland.
Keenum started last Sunday against Tennessee, leading Houston to a 19-16 overtime win.
Houston is now 8-6 and tied for first place in the AFC South with Jacksonville and Indianapolis. Cleveland comes in 9-5, second in the AFC North behind Baltimore.
Boyle, who played his college ball at Eastern Kentucky, has played for four teams in his five-year NFL career. He’s seen action in 20 games since coming into the league. Boyle was released by the Jets after two starts this season.
