HOUSTON — The Houston Astros optioned Chas McCormick to Triple-A Sugar Land last week, but just a few days later, he’s back with the Major League club.
On Monday, outfielder Jake Meyers was added to the paternity list and to make room for him on the roster, the Astros called McCormick back up.
It could be a brief stay with the Astros, as MLB rules allow for players to be on the paternity list up to 72 hours.
For the season, Meyers is batting .226 with 12 home runs and 55 RBIs. Before he was sent to Sugar Land, McCormick was hitting .192 with five home runs and 24 RBIs. Since he was sent to Sugar Land, McCormick is 4 for 13 for a .308 average. He has a double and an RBI.
The Astros open up a three-game set in Cincinnati on Monday before returning home to play the Diamondbacks. Houston is fresh off a four-game sweep of the Royals and have won their last 5 games. They lead the second-place Seattle Mariners by six games in the American League West.
