HOUSTON — The Houston Astros season came to an end Wednesday after a Game 2 loss to the Detroit Tigers in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.
Hunter Brown started for Houston allowing one run, while pitching into the sixth inning. He left the game with the Astros trailing 1-0.
Bryan Abreu finished out the sixth inning and worked a 1-2-3 seventh inning.
The Astros took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh when Jeremy Peña scored on a Jose Altuve sacrifice fly.
Ryan Pressly came in to start the top of the eighth inning and the Tigers were able to score on a wild pitch to tie the game.
With two outs and runners on first and second, Josh Hader came on in relief of Pressly. Hader served up a bases-clearing double after walking the first batter he faced.
The Astros went down in order in the bottom of the eighth inning and Hader stayed in the game to get through the top of the ninth.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Victor Caratini struck out looking, Peña flew out to center and Mauricio Dubon grounded out to end the game.
In what could be his last at-bat as a member of the Houston Astros, Alex Bregman grounded out in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The Astros lost the first game of the series 3-1 after a ninth-inning rally came up short.
With the loss, Houston's streak of seven consecutive American League Championship Series appearances came to an end.
