HOUSTON — What a night it was at Minute Maid Park, from an appearance by the GOAT and her Olympic teammates to honoring a KHOU 11 icon. It ended with a walkoff win that sent the hometown crowd home happy.

It started before the game as the Astros honored former KHOU 11 Sports Reporter Matt Musil for 43 years on the air at KHOU 11. Musil is also a nominee for the Astros Media Wall of Honor.

KHOU 11’s Jason Bristol was there and captured photos of Matt with the jersey the team presented to him with a No. 43 on the back for the years covering the team.

Highlights also included the Houston area’s Simone Biles, fresh off another dominant performance at the Paris Olympic games.  She threw out the first pitch of the game, which you can see below.

But it wasn't just the GOAT. The Astros honored more 2024 Paris Olympians at the game on Friday night.

As for what happened on the field after that, starting pitcher Framber Valdez was unhittable against the Royals, throwing seven innings of no-hit baseball, before handing it over to the bullpen.

Houston had a 2-0 lead after eight innings, but the Royals tied it up in the top of the ninth. In the bottom of the frame with Jake Meyers on first base, Jose Altuve drove the ball deep to left field that fell for a double, driving in Meyers for the game winner.
