Houston Astros' Alex Bregman celebrates after hitting a walk-off home run against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Saturday, July 27, in Houston.

HOUSTON — The American League Championship Series is underway between the Yankees and Guardians. It’s the first time in eight years, the Astros aren’t part of it.

Houston does have a lot of question marks in the offseason, none bigger than third-baseman Alex Bregman.

While Bregman, a free agent, doesn’t have a deal with the Astros, he did post to Instagram on Sunday night, thanking Houston fans for sticking with the team though the season.

“Astros fans thank you for the support all year long, we came up short this year, but proud of the guys for the effort and the fight 💪,” Bregman posted on Sunday night.

While it doesn't give an indication of whether Bregman is leaning towards staying or leaving, the post to Instagram comes nearly two weeks after he posted a message to X. That short thank you message was right after the Astros were eliminated by Detroit.

Bregman has played his entire career with the Astros. The LSU product spent the last nine seasons with Houston and was with them for their run of seven straight ALCS appearances. He’s been part of four World Series teams and two World Series championships.

Bregman is a career .272 hitter with 191 home runs and 663 RBIs.

Bregman enters free agency, along with future Hall of Famer Justin Verlander, Yusei Kikuchi, Hector Neris, Omar Narvaez, Jason Heyward, Kendall Graveman, Ben Gamel and Caleb Ferguson.
