Your Lawn is not Dead, it's just Sleeping

This winter has been cold enough to put our st. Augustine lawns in a deep, deep sleep. My lawn almost looks dead, but it's not. When the soil temp drops to 55 degrees, St. Augustine grass simply goes to sleep. My pets are good with the situation.

However, upon closer inspection I spotted a few bright green areas. Is the grass waking up? Nope. The weeds are getting a head start. They get growing with the higher sun angle and don't have to wait for soil temperatures to rise. At 60 degrees and above, the soil temp will be warm enough to wake up the St. Augustine. The whole lawn will green up then. That's when you know a hot summer is right around the corner.
