Local fans line up to see 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' film

Local Star Wars fans flocked to theaters Thursday evening to stand in line for the newest film in the franchise.

PEARLAND, Texas - Millions of Star Wars fans went to a galaxy far far away Thursday night as they were some of the first to see the latest, highly anticipated Star Wars movie.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is the 7th installment in the franchise and takes place about 30 years after the events of the last film, "Return of the Jedi."

Fans told KHOU 11 News that the movie was worth the wait and those planning to see it are in for a treat.

"This is essentially the accumulation of nerdiness and years of waiting and waiting and waiting and finally it's coming out," said Cam Olivieri, who went to see the film at a Pearland theater on Thursday.

The Olivieris were all dressed like Jedis and Cam said he remembers the original trilogy, as he watched them in his native Venezuela.

"I have to join the force too, as a wife of course," said Mary Olivieri, his wife.

Lines grew by the minute at the Cinemark in Pearland and some came to the theater more dressed up than others like Sean "Obi-Wan" Lucas - and yes that is his last name.

"Being in love with the universe and me wanting to be part of it, that's what dressing up is about," said Lucas.

There were also the Doyle family whose son Deacon couldn't decided whether he wanted to be a trooper or a Jedi but his dad Matthew knew he had to be first in line with his whole family.

"I just try and carry it on and give them the same experiences that I had as a kid," Matthew said.

The general manager of the theater said the first showing Friday is around 9 a.m. so his staff will be getting in at 7:30 a.m. and he says he expects the weekend to be huge in terms of sales.
