Texas politicians are reacting on social media after former president Donald Trump was whisked off the stage as shots rang out at a Pennsylvania rally.
Trump's campaign confirmed the former president is "fine" in a statement. ABC News reported that the shooter and at least one bystander were killed during the possible assassination attempt.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott posted to X, formerly Twitter, saying "PRAY FOR TRUMP" and calling the former president "indomitable."
Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, who has served as acting governor for the past week, posted on X, asking his followers to pray for President Trump.
In a statement, former president George W. Bush said "Laura and I are grateful that President Trump is safe following the cowardly attack on his life. And we commend the men and women of the Secret Service for their speedy response."
Senator Ted Cruz also reacted, calling the apparent shooting "horrific & wrong & evil."
Democratic Senate hopeful Congressman Colin Allred, who is facing Sen. Cruz in the upcoming November election, also spoke out on the shooting attempt, saying "violence of any kind has no place in our democracy, and I condemn this horrific attack in the strongest possible terms."
Senator John Cornyn also voiced his support for the former president saying "whoever is responsible must face swift justice."
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton posted on X saying "The world is evil," and stating he is praying for the former president's recovery.
Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan asked followers to "join [him] in paying for President Trump and all those at the rally right now," in a post on X.
Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson, who will speak at the 2024 Republican National Convention, posted his support, saying he is praying for the former president and thankful for quick action from the Secret Service. The same sentiment was expressed by Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker, who stated "there is no place for political violence in our nation."
Tarrant County Judge Tim O'Hare posted on X, praying for the family of the bystander who was killed and stating his thanks that the former president is OK.
Several Texas congresspeople have taken to X to post their reactions to the apparent shooting. North Texas Congresswoman Beth VanDuyne posted on X "God Bless and Protect President Trump!"
Houston representative Wesley Hunt said he and his wife are praying for the former president and his family. Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz called Trump "the biggest fighter America has" in a post on X. Congressman Ronny Jackson, who represents Texas' 13th congressional district that covers most of the state's panhandle, simply posted "PLEASE PRAY FOR PRESIDENT TRUMP!"
A prominent voice in Texas business, Mark Cuban posted on X saying "let's hope they catch the idiot who did this," while also praising a doctor who was at the rally who tried to save a bystander's life.
