Harris County District Attorney election results: Democrat Sean Teare edges out Republican Dan Simons

In the primary, District Attorney Kim Ogg conceded to Sean Teare. Dan Simons ran unopposed.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Democratic candidate Sean Teare edged out Republican candidate Dan Simons in the race to become the next Harris County District Attorney

With 100% of the precincts reporting in, the unofficial results have Teare winning with 50.82% of the vote.

"Thank you, Harris County! This victory is for everyone who believes in safer neighborhoods and a justice system that works for all. To our volunteers: you’ve built this campaign. Now, let’s get to work restoring trust in the DA’s office and making our communities safer for everyone," Teare said in a post on social media late Wednesday morning.

In the March Democratic primary, challenger Teare defeated incumbent Kim Ogg, 126,449 to 42,149, roughly 75% of the vote.

Ogg has served as district attorney since being elected into office following the November 2016 election. She defeated Republican incumbent Devon Anderson.

Simons ran unopposed in the GOP primary.

Teare served as a prosecutor with the Harris County DA's Office for 11 years, including six years as the Division Supervisor of the Office’s Vehicular Crimes Division.

Simons joined the U.S. Air Force before studying law and later worked as a prosecutor at the Harris County DA's office under Anderson and then Ogg.
