Driverless rideshare company that just launched service in Houston now under federal investigation

The investigation by the NHTSA is focused on a pair of crashes involving pedestrians and Cruise vehicles in San Francisco.

HOUSTON — Cruise, the driverless car company that recently started services in Houston, is under federal investigation.

Less than a week ago, Cruise launched its rideshare services in Houston after a brief trial period.

The investigation by the United States National Highway Transportation Safety Administration is focused on a pair of crashes involving pedestrians and Cruise vehicles in San Francisco.

So far, it doesn't appear as if there have been any serious issues in Houston.

Cruise said in a statement, "Cruise's safety record of more than 5 million miles continues to outperform comparable human drivers at a time when pedestrian injuries and deaths are at an all-time high."
