HOUSTON – A man changing a tire on his pickup truck was struck and killed on the Eastex Freeway late Monday.
It happened around 10 p.m. near the exit for Tidwell.
Investigators said the man may have been partially in a lane of traffic as he tried to change the tire. Another pickup driver came along and struck him. The victim died at the scene.
The suspect has been identified as 57-year-old Meregildo Portales, who faces charges of intoxication manslaughter. He was detained at the scene.
The driver and at least one other witness involved in the incident stopped to talk to Houston police.
