HOUSTON — It was quite a nightmare at George Bush Intercontinental Airport Monday after all United Airlines flights headed for Houston were grounded.
The airline said the weather was to blame for the ground stop, though other flights were not impacted.
Anita, a United Airlines passenger, said she was stuck in Washington D.C. due to delays.
“We were on a flight at like 12:40 or something like that, and it was delayed basically like eight or nine hours in the airport," Anita said. "We're traveling with a pet, so it was like extra stressful being stuck there."
Eventually, her flight was canceled.
“They told us they were going to put us on a flight the next day, but that was not true," she said. "So, I had to call and rebook myself."
Luckily, she was visiting her parents, so she didn’t have to worry about getting a hotel, and eventually, she got on a flight on Tuesday, but it was delayed while on the tarmac, which was stressful.
Anita wasn't the only person impacted.
Shelby Blackstock was supposed to fly to Houston on Monday afternoon. She said the airline booked another flight, but it didn’t work for her so she had to find a flight for Tuesday. That flight ended up being the same delayed flight Anita was on.
Shelby said it was frustrating.
“Especially, you know, because I was visiting a friend and so I was trying to keep her in the loop," Shelby said.
The foot traffic at Bush Airport slowly picked up on Tuesday. The baggage claim area and the two lines for assistance with luggage problems grew but eventually slowed down.
Meanwhile, the lines for departure remained long throughout the day. United advises flyers to check their flight status online.
