Former Texas deputy accused of stealing cash while working wedding won't be charged

A grand jury decided to no bill a former Grimes County deputy who was accused of stealing cards filled with cash at a wedding last year.

PLANTERSVILLE, Texas — A grand jury decided to no bill a former Grimes County deputy who had been accused of stealing cards filled with cash while working security at a wedding last year.

The wedding happened in early November in Plantersville.

The couple shared surveillance video from the wedding that showed the deputy standing near a box full of cards while wedding guests were outside taking pictures.

On Friday, the Grimes County District Attorney said the Texas Rangers investigated and handed over their case to a grand jury, which decided not to take any action against the former deputy.

The DA said no further action is expected unless new evidence comes to light.

The week after their wedding, Tony Clark and his new bride, Chelsie, were shocked when they started getting questions about the gifts they were given.

"They just kind of asked, 'Hey, what did you think about our card.' And we were, like, 'What?'" Tony said last November.

They said they reviewed surveillance video from a reception hall when the wedding guests and couple were outside taking pictures. They said it appeared to show an off-duty Grimes County Sheriff’s deputy working security at the wedding allegedly taking the cards. He was even wearing a uniform.

"Oh my gosh, and then he just goes into the bathroom,” Chelsie said while watching the video.

Tony said he was angry at first and then disappointed by the suspected theft at the hands of someone hired to keep things from happening.
