Nude inmate flees Central Texas prison... but not for long

Kendrick Davis was located shortly after 8 p.m. hiding in a wooded area a few hundred yards from a privately-run minimum security prison.

KYLE, Texas After less than six hours of freedom, police dogs tracked down 34-year-old Kendrick Davis, an inmate who escaped from the Kyle Correctional Facility south of Austin on Saturday afternoon.

Davis was located shortly after 8 p.m. hiding in a wooded area a few hundred yards from the privately-run minimum security prison.

Police said the 34-year-old inmate was found naked, wearing only one shoe. He suffered minor injuries.

Staff at the Management and Training Corporation saw him escape at approximately 2:20 p.m., climbing over a perimeter fence wearing white boxer shorts and shoes.

Davis was convicted of two counts of aggravated robbery in Dallas County in 1996. He was sentenced to 25 years.

Davis will be arraigned on escape charges and then transferred to a state prison.

The Kyle unit is one of seven privately-run prisons in Texas. It is located seven miles north of San Marcos on Interstate 35 in Hays County and has a capacity of 520 inmates.
