Hawaiian Falls water and adventure parks in Mansfield, the Colony, Roanoke and three other sites in Texas have been slapped with an $85,904 fine by the U.S. Labor Department for violating child labor laws.

The water park in White Settlement previously operated by Hawaiian Falls is also named.

Federal investigators found that Hawaiian Falls allowed underage workers at the parks to operate chainsaws, golf carts, gas-powered presser washers, open-flame grills and pizza ovens, and to work in walk-in freezers in violation of child labor provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

“In addition, the agency found dozens of workers under the age of 16 had worked outside of the hours allowed by law for that age group,” the Labor Department said in a news release.

“Keeping our youngest workers safe on the job is one of the department’s top priorities,” Betty Campbell of the Southwest Wage and Hour Division said in the release. “This employer put the health and well-being of children at risk by employing them to perform prohibited and hazardous jobs, and for scheduling them outside of the hours allowed by law.”
