Deputies seize millions in heroin en route to Houston

Approximately eight kilograms of suspected white heroin, with a street value of $6.4 million, was seized by the Fayette County Sheriff's Department from a car traveling from Mexico to Houston Monday morning.

FAYETTE COUNTY, Texas - Approximately eight kilograms of suspected white heroin, with a street value of $6.4 million, was seized by the Fayette County Sheriff's Department from a car traveling from Mexico to Houston Monday morning.

Deputies said they stopped a 2007 Chevy van just after 10:45 a.m. for a routine traffic stop on Interstate Highway 10.

When officials began to question the driver, Andrea Hernandez Gonzalez, 54, about why she was traveling to Houston, they allegedly heard varying accounts that didn't add up.

Gonzalez also appeared nervous when authorities questioned her about being a drug trafficker, the sheriff's department said.

After a search of the vehicle, deputies said they found a secret compartment built into the frame of the car, that held eight kilos of narcotics.

Gonzalez was arrested and taken to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center.
