PEARLAND, Texas - A local activist well-known for stirring things up is wearing a coach's hat as his 9-year-old son creates some noise of his own on the football field.

Quanell X Jr. plays both offense and defense for the Pearland Freshman Eagles youth football team.

He wears number 7 and by many accounts, he's taken his league by storm.

"He's very special," said Brian Davis, the team's head coach. "With the work that he puts in before practice and after practice, it shows."

Video clips showcasing's the boy's explosive talent can be found online. His father coaches the team's defense.

"They'll be yelling it on the sidelines," said Quanell X. "Stop seven. Where seven goes, you go. Seven to the left. Seven to the right."

Often times, number 7 winds up in the end zone. He's scored more than 30 touchdowns this season helping the Eagles to remain undefeated.

"Quanell is a great player," said Steve Alkire, an assistant coach for the team. "He just has a passion for the game and when he gets on the field, he just lets it shine."

During the season, the team holds practice three times each week. The young athlete says he loves playing the game.

"It first starts off with your mindset," said Quanell X Jr. "And second, it starts with your heart. When you have that, you're just good."

The Eagles will play their next game on Saturday.

"I love you son," said the boy's father as practice came to an end. "Let's go."
