Police: Suspect driving 120 mph killed in crash during high speed chase

The 25-year-old man lost control of his vehicle during the chase and crashed in a used car lot.

HOUSTON - A man was killed after leading police on a high speed chase, reaching speeds up to 120 mph through Houston early Friday morning.

Officers say the 25-year-old Hispanic male sped away from a possible drive-by shooting scene. An officer responding to the scene followed him and tried to pull him over.

The suspect accelerated and hit speeds well above 100 mph.

During the chase, the suspect apparently hit a bump in the road and lost control. The vehicle went airborne and eventually crashed into a used car lot.

The suspect was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead on the scene, officers said.

The chase began in northeast Houston and ended in south Houston on Allen Genoa Road near Pasadena.

Officers said the pursuit lasted about 30 minutes. It's unclear why the suspect fled the shooting scene in the first place.
