Parents: Talking Fisher Price baby doll says 'Islam is the light'

ROSENBERG, Texas -- Toys are usually for child's play, but one doll is getting the attention of concerned adults because they find its baby talk offensive.

Does talking doll promote Islam?

"Little Mommy Cuddle 'N Coo" has become the talk of the town.

The Fisher Price doll, made in China, is geared toward children ages two and up.

She says "mama."

But that's not all.

When Linda Heubner listens, she hears something else.

"I hear her saying 'Islam is the light,'" Heubner said.

And she's not the only one.

"Oh my gosh," said Melanie Mays, who listened to the doll in a store parking lot in Rosenberg. "It's a little disturbing."

It wasn't so clear for others who heard the doll's coos.

"I can't make out what she's saying," Alex Sotelo said.

A little prompting helped.

"I think she's saying, 'Islam is the light,'" Huebner told Sotelo.

"OK, now I heard it," Sotelo responded.

Heubner and Mays believe its wrong for retailers to continue selling the dolls.

"I'm not targeting any group in particular. That's not what this is about," Mays said. "This is about my rights as a Christian to have -- or not have -- offense to things."

We found "Little Mommy Cuddle 'N Coo" in three Houston stores.

While there don't appear to be any plans to pull the doll from store shelves, we spoke with a representative from Fisher Price who said a portion of the doll's sound file has been eliminated from future production to avoid possible misinterpretation.

The company said because the original sound track had to be compressed into a file that can be played through an inexpensive toy speaker, the sounds may be distorted or imprecise. They even sent us a link to that original track.

Heubner and others believe the doll should be pulled from the shelves.
