Man shot, killed after allegedly pointing a gun at officers during 'crisis'

Officers said at some point, the man picked up the weapon and pointed at an officer. The officer, fearing for his life, pulled out his gun and shot him.

KINGWOOD, Texas - A man who was "in crisis" was shot and killed by a Houston police officer early Saturday morning.

The incident happened around 12:45 a.m. at a home in the 2800 block of Eagle Creek Dr.

The Houston Police Department said they received a call from a family member of the man saying he was having a crisis. When officers arrived at the home, they found the family member trying to calm the man down in the backyard.

Officers learned there was a kid inside the home and wanted to deescalate the situation quickly. They got in contact with the man but noticed he had a weapon.

Officers said at some point, the man picked up the weapon and pointed at an officer. The officer, fearing for his life, pulled out his gun and shot him.

The man was transported to Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The officer who discharged his weapon will be placed on administrative duties for a few days, according to HPD. The Harris County District Attorney's Office has joined the investigation.
