Lone Star Rally weekend revs up in Galveston

Running from Thursday through Sunday, officials said the rally can bring half a million visitors to the island and have an economic impact of more than $115 million.

GALVESTON, Texas — The Lone Star Rally is back for four days in Galveston this weekend!

Running from Thursday through Sunday, officials said the rally can bring half a million visitors to the island and have an economic impact of more than $115 million.

The event will feature street vendors, concerts and more.

With the festivities concentrated around the city's historic downtown and Sewall Boulevard, there will be some road closures.

Seawall Boulevard will be closed from 19th Street to 27th Street, though eastbound traffic will stay open during the rally for vehicles and motorcycles. Officials said westbound traffic will be diverted north on 19th Street to Avenue O, west to 27th Street and south back to the boulevard.

The Strand will be closed during the rally from 18th Street to 25th Street, except for bike traffic.

The city said the rubber wheel trolley's Seawall route will be in operation on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., should traffic allow. The trolley costs $1 per rider. If operations are shut down due to traffic, an alert will be sent out via social media.

With an influx of motorcycle riders in town, officials ask that you be extra vigilant on the road.
