Driver arrested after Livingston ISD student hit, killed by 18-wheeler while getting off bus, DPS says

A 15-year-old high school student was struck by an 18-wheeler and killed after getting off a Livingston ISD bus along US-59, DPS said.

LIVINGSTON, Texas — A 15-year-old high school student was killed Thursday after getting hit by an 18-wheeler just north of Livingston, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

DPS said the driver of the 18-wheeler, Gregory Jackson, 41, of Texarkana, was arrested and charged with criminal negligent homicide, a felony offense, in connection with the deadly crash. He is being held in the Polk County jail.

DPS said the teen was hit by an 18-wheeler after getting off a Livingston ISD bus along US-59.

It happened around 4:15 p.m. DPS said the bus was stopped in a northbound outside lane with its flashing red lights and stop sign extended to let the child off. Investigators said the 18-wheeler crashed into a car that was stopped behind the bus and then veered to the right and hit the student.

The teen was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two drivers were not injured, DPS said.

Livingston ISD sent this statement:
