With rain on the way, Lake Houston being lowered by a foot

Tropical moisture is expected to move in, starting late Sunday, with chances increasing through the week.

HOUSTON — With rain in the forecast this week, Lake Houston is being lowered by a foot.

Houston Public Works started the lowering at 6 a.m. Sunday. They said it takes 24 hours to lower the lake to its new elevation of 41.4 feet.

Because of the lowering, people who have property or live along the lake should secure property.

According to meteorologist Chris Ramirez, tropical moisture will push into Southeast Texas in the coming days. There’s a 20% chance Sunday, which increases to a 60% chance Monday, 80% chance Tuesday and 80% chance Wednesday.
