Investigation underway after human remains found by construction worker in wooded area in NE Houston

Houston police said the remains were scattered in a wooded area off Little York Road on the northeast side.

HOUSTON — Houston police are investigating after construction workers found human remains in a wooded area on Little York Road on the city’s northeast side on Friday.

The skeletal remains were found by a worker about 30 to 50 yards from where construction has been taking place throughout the day.

Houston Police Department officials told KHOU 11 News that officers were dispatched after a worker alerted them about skeletal remains found. HPD detectives said a worker noticed what appeared to be animal bones.

“He found a deer antler, which isn't too uncommon up here in the more wooded areas of Houston, and ... just happened to stumble upon the remains,” HPD Detective Mike Nicotra said.

Detectives said they spent about five hours searching a pretty wide area in the woods. They said the skeletal remains were scattered.

KHOU spoke off-camera to a worker who said it’s common for a lot of them to find shade and relief from the heat in the wooded area when working out there, but he never expected someone would find what they did.

This is an ongoing investigation, and the remains will be sent to the medical examiner’s office to determine who they could be and how they died.
